What is the Right Design Worth?

Posted: June 16th, 2011 | Author: admin | Categories: Web Design Services | Tags: ,

This is one of those discussions that really don’t need to take place and yet time and again you will find people that are seemingly satisfied with substandard web presence designed by lack luster folks that simply want to earn a quick buck. In short they are happy with a boring web site that could just as easily have been done by their secretary from a free online template. And a boring web presence is one that is not going to drive traffic and revenue to your place of business. In fact it might well have the opposite effect and actually drive customers and money away from you and off to the competition.

The surest way to combat that is to do your best to make it fresh and exciting so that people that stumble on your site will find a reason to linger and even better, a reason to return again and that is what puts the money in your bank and let’s you keep living the lifestyle to which you have become accustomed. So your web design should be worth a pretty penny.

The United States Immigration is in the business of getting people to send money to obtain a US Green Card and they are what people lovingly refer to as the USCIS. They are one entity that has the power to pretty much play God. Entities like this are a needed thing and not a wanted thing. If they were a business they could have the worst design ever and still show a profit because people can only go to them for this service. They are a monopoly and most of you reading this are in competition with thousands upon thousands of companies doing the same thing and the result is that you have to get them when and where you can. In other words you need a nifty web design to get customers.

So what does it take to have a great web design? The short answer is a lot of money. The long answer is a great company that knows your vision and can translate what and who you are into a design that is tan extension of that. In other worlds they pretty much need to be able to get inside your head to design a site that you would design if you could.

If we look once more tat the United States Immigration department. They could simply have the worst web site in the world with only text links and no graphics at all. They could have a link that simply says US Green Card and [people that were looking for one would go there. The people that visit the USCIS are driven by a need to get a service that they can not get anywhere else so they do what they have to go get it regardless of how good or bad the site might be. It is a pure case of supply and demand that drives that.

To put that in a context that is understandable to everyone. If the USCIS acting as the United States Immigration selling US Green Cards was to be likened to McDonalds.  It would be somewhat like the burger giant only offering one combo and yet people would buy it simply because they were the only place offering a fast food combo meal. Thankfully in the real world there is fair competition and so tat scenario would and could never happen.
